One Messy Morning

I'd like to first say sorry to all my readers.  I probably shouldn't have started a blog right before finals week, but I'm officially done.  I honestly didn't think I would get so many readers right off the bat.  I feel incredibly lucky that I did.  I read other blogs pretty religiously and I definitely want to get on a writing schedule, I'm just not sure when will work best yet.  So, let me experiment and I'll set a schedule soon!

This was one of those weeks where I could not wait to meet my best friend out for drinks after work.  I'm definitely a work hard, play harder type of girl.  The first thing I reach for when I get home after a long week is a shot of tequila.  I stopped just outside the building this morning to put on my heels.  I'd started doing this shortly after I realized I'd be seeing Jason more often than not in the mornings.  It had been two weeks since he'd actually spoke to me, but still most mornings he was either in the lobby or the elevator when I got to work.  I had to wonder if I had just been missing him before we spoke, but since my job required a crazy amount of attention to detail, I figured it was unlikely.  I still wasn't sure what I had done to earn his attention that day, but I was sure that it was a fluke.  Whatever the reason, I hadn't been able to get him off my mind.

I headed to the elevators, sure enough passing Mr. James.  My roommate and best friend, McKenzie, suggested I call him out.  Just acknowledge that I notice him.  She's insane, but I love her anyways.  I told her there was no way in hell I would be doing that.  She shook her head, laughed, and mentioned we would be going out tonight, because I would surely need it.  I didn't dare try to get out of it.  We hadn't been in the city that long, and so far we were pretty much all each other had.  If she said we were going out, I owed it to her to go.  I was mentally preparing my outfit for tonight when I ran straight into hard muscle and before I knew it strong hands gripped my arms and I could feel liquid running down my shirt.  “What the…” I stammered off realizing whose muscular chest I had just run into.  “Mr. James, I… I’m… God, I’m so sorry.” I scramble, looking around for something to cover my now coffee soaked white cami.  Seriously, I shouldn’t be allowed to own white things.  I was mortified.  “It mostly missed me,” He was smirking again.  “I really thought you would look up before you ran right into me.”  I was fuming.  “So, you just thought letting me walk right into you was a good idea.” I looked up at him expectantly, waiting for an answer.  When I looked into his eyes they were lit up with passion, which he quickly covered up with a bored look before speaking.  “Don’t let it happen again Miss Cross,” he said before turning to head the other way.

Just.fucking.great… could today get much worse?  I really didn’t think so.  With that awful encounter behind me, I headed towards the elevators and up to my office, hoping I had another top that would match in there.

After the great start that was my morning, I decided to lock myself in my office and work ahead on some projects that were coming up soon.  “Stacey?” I buzzed my secretary and asked her to hold all calls and visitors until this afternoon.  This was a pretty typical thing for me.  I didn’t like to be interrupted, especially when I got on a roll.  Typically, I did this after everyone left, but it was imperative that I make it out tonight.  In fact, after my awful morning, I’d even consider leaving work early.  A mani pedi and a blow out sounded really good right about now.  Just as I was getting settled in to work, there was a knock at my door.  Before I could even answer, in walks a tall brunette that I have never seen before.  “Excuse me,” I stand.  She walks to my desk, smiles, sets down a cup of coffee, and walks right back out the door.  At this point, I’m fuming.  I don’t even know what that was.  As I go to pick up the cup, I notice that there is a note attached to it.

I’m sorry for spilling your coffee this morning.  I hope I can make it up to you. –J

Well at least now he’s admitting to what he did.  I shake my head and grab my phone to text McKenzie.  She’ll laugh about my awful more.

Well he spilled my coffee on me in the lobby this morning.  Mortified doesn’t even begin to cover it.  THEN he fucking sends me a replacement with some bimbo brunette.  She SERIOUSLY doesn’t even speak to me, just leaves it with his note and walks out. UGHH.  Can’t wait for drinks.

I know that Kenz is typically busy with meetings in the morning so I throw my phone in my purse and settle in with my new coffee to work.

I manage to concentrate for a while, but I can’t seem to get this morning out of my mine.  I mean I just don’t get it.  Why have I been singled out?  And who the hell was that girl?  That’s irrational and I know it, but I can’t help but wonder.  I mean obviously she works here, but what does she know?  What is he even thinking?  GAHHH.  Work used to be my sanctuary, but it was quickly becoming full of distractions.  After the morning I had, I decided a spa half day would do me good.  Just as I was getting ready to head out early, my work phone rang.

“Hello, Savannah…” I was cut off by Kenz before I could even finish.  “Hey hussy, I tried texting you back about your disastrous morning, but you weren’t answering so I had to call to get all the details.” “Well, it was exactly like I said in the text.” I reply exasperated.  “I’m actually about to leave early.”  I can hear the disbelief in Kenzie’s voice, “You’re kidding me right?  You neverrrrr leave early.  You’re like the damn poster child for staying late.”  At that I smile, “Well yeah, but it’s been a shitty week and I want to get pampered before we go out tonight.”  Kenzie sighs, “Damn, I wish I could come, but I actually have a lot to finish up here, so let me know when you’re done and I’ll meet you at home, k?” I roll my eyes, “K, Kenz.. I’ll let you know.”  I hang up the phone and grab my purse.  As I stand up, I realize I haven’t even changed my shirt yet.  I walk over to the in the corner of my office and luckily find a cute cami.  I throw it on, grab my purse, and go.

“Stacey, I’ll be gone the rest of the day.  Please forward any urgent calls to my cell.”

“Of course Miss Cross, is there anything else I can do for you?” She smiles.  “No, thank you, that will be all.” I smile back before heading for the elevator.  Once in the lobby of the building I hail a cab, hop in, and give the driver the location of the spa I always go to.  I can’t wait to just sit back and relax.  As the cab is pulling away from the curb, I can’t help but feel someone’s eyes on me.  As I look back, I see Jason staring right at me with that stupid smirk back on his face.
